The Active Library

Start with what your skin needs.

Choose a skin type and goal to surface a focused routine. Must haves address the primary need; effective adjuncts add support without turning your shelf into a chemistry experiment.

Formula Matters

The ingredient name is only the beginning.

We evaluate how an active is delivered, not merely whether it appears on the label.

01

Hyaluronic acid by molecular weight

Our preferred hydrators use a deliberate molecular-weight strategy. Larger molecules support surface hydration; smaller fractions may reach different layers, but “lower” is not automatically better.

02

Ceramides as a lipid system

We look for ceramide NP, AP, EOP, NS, and AS within a complete barrier system that may also include cholesterol and free fatty acids, rather than treating one ceramide as the whole story.

03

Retinoids with smart delivery

Encapsulation can improve stability and control release. The goal is effective exposure with a routine your skin can tolerate, not the harshest formula on the shelf.

Avenue 27 Standard

We show percentages when they mean something.

More is not always more effective. A percentage without context can mislead.

  • We disclose the finished-product active percentage whenever the brand verifies it.
  • We distinguish a raw-material blend percentage from the concentration of the active itself.
  • We consider pH, vehicle, stability, molecular size, encapsulation, and contact time.
  • We do not invent a percentage when evidence or manufacturer disclosure is unavailable.
  • We prioritize the lowest effective, tolerable routine over unnecessary active stacking.
Your skin does not need every active.

Build the shortest routine that does the job.

Begin with your must haves, add one effective adjunct at a time, and let tolerance—not trends—set the pace. Analyzer and quiz results will open this Lab with your skin type and primary goal already selected.

Ingredient Lab content is educational and supports cosmetic product selection. It is not a diagnosis, treatment plan, or substitute for care from a dermatologist or other licensed clinician. Patch test new products, introduce one active at a time, and seek professional advice for persistent, severe, or rapidly changing skin concerns. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, prescription treatments, allergies, and compromised skin barriers may require individualized guidance.
